Guión de codornices

A shy, secretive bird of the Donegal Islands, the distinctive "kerrx-kerrx" call of the male is often the only indication of their presence.

This animal breeds in Europe and Asia in the summer, migrating as far as South-East Africa to spend the winter. With a chestnut-brown colour, this bird prefers to run through thick cover, dropping quickly back into cover when flushed. Its flight is weak and floppy when it is escaping from danger. In flight, the large bright chestnut patches on its wings and the dangling legs are distinctive.

In Donegal County this bird can only be seen during the spring-summer months, when it is breeding. It is most active early in the morning or at sundown.
