Kelp

These large seaweeds grow in large "underwater forests" in shallow areas with plenty of nutrients and mild temperatures between 6 and 14ºC (43-57ºF). They are known for their high growth rate—some species can grow as fast as half a metre a day, ultimately reaching 30 to 80 metres (100 to 260 ft.).

Kelp forests support rich marine diversity, playing an important ecological function, with many species that breed and live in them. They also reduce wave energy, and are of vital importance for the pharmaceutical and food industries due to their contents in vitamins, mineral salts and trace elements.
