Scientists from all over the Mediterranean are concerned about the increasing arrival of fish species of tropical origin to the Mediterranean Sea. This phenomenon seems to be due to global warming.
The majority of these species arrive from the Red Sea through the Suez Canal, and some of them are highly invasive, with potential danger for native species, natural habitats and human health. It is important to monitor and record the arrival of such species, something difficult because of the occasional character of sightings, especially in the early stages of colonization. This is why citizen science is so important in this case, to gather as many data and sightings as early as possible.
