To gather information on seabird ecology, distribution and behaviour at sea.
Especies Objetivo & Habitats
Sobre esta iniciativa
Although there are thousands of birdwatchers throughout the world, with their specialized internet portals to feed their records and information, most ornithologists records are from land, and mainly of land species. Also, most records of sea birds are made from the land, and very few at sea. For this reason seabird comments at sea are extremely valuable. This project tries to gather as much information as possible about seabirds at sea, so they can learn more about their distribution and behaviour.

If you are frequently at sea, take binoculars with you to look for sea birds; binoculars with a magnifying factor of 8x are good enough. When you see any species of sea bird, check the species (take pictures if you can to confirm with the experts!), GPS location, sea state and wind.
If possible, estimate the abundance of each species, with more (e.g. 1, 3, 17 individuals) or less (around 20, around 100, etc.) precision. All additional information, such as proportion of juvenile/adults, behaviour, etc. will also be very useful! In any case, always speak to the lead scientist first, to make sure you can get all the necessary information.
It is very important to write down all the records and positions on a notebook immediately or as soon as possible.
