Lääne County has a quarter of its area under protection. This region is a crucial spot for migratory birds as millions of them stop along the coast of the county in spring and autumn on their way to and from their nesting sites in the Arctic. This is why in this region you can find one of Europe’s largest protected areas for birds, the Matsalu National Park.
The coastline of this region measures more than 375 km and is full of sandy beaches, islands and islets, where many different nautical activities can be done. For all these reasons Lääne County is just a must visit region of Estonia.
