Brings you the best marine ecotourism experiences in Europe

Malin Beg is pretty little town that is home to one of the most beautiful beaches along the Wild Atlantic Way in Donegal - the Silver Strand. It offers a great diversity of diving options for divers of all levels:

  • The Harbour: The Harbour is a beautiful training dive from 5m to 12m around a large stack teeming with life, as it is an interesting habitat for a wide variety of North Atlantic lifeoctopus, eel, shrimp and wrasse. It makes a world class night dive, easy access and control and teeming with life.
  • Shark and Gloster Rocks: Not far out of the Harbour are Shark and Gloster Rocks which will surprise with its stunning terrain including vertical 20m swimthrough, drop-offs, gullies. Depths range from 14m on the sheltered North side to 40 on the more exposed South.
  • Rathlin O’Birne: 5km from Malinbeg is Rathlin O’Birne, which offers stunning clear water dives all around the island depending on weather conditions.
  • Slieve League: The cliffs at Slieve League are the tallest seacliffs in Europe with the height of 600m. Underneath there are dives range from shallow reefs to small coves and a very interesting cave large enough for a RIB to enter.
Suitable for divers of all levels, access to the Harbour is via the pier at the bottom of a long flight of steps, which may require a few trips with your gear. The pier has steps down to the water. From the pier, submerge and head south (keeping the cliff wall on your right) to the sea stack in the middle of the harbour. Circumnavigate the stack a couple of times taking time to explore its many nooks and crannies, then return the way you came. Expect to see wrasse, annemones, sponges and lobsters. This can also be done as a night dive if you are feeling adventurous.
