Østlandet - Eastern Norway - covers the counties of Telemark, Vestfold, Østfold, Akershus, Oslo, Buskerud, Oppland and Hedmark. In Norwegian, this region is also called Austlandet ("East Land") in contrast to Vestlandet ("West Land"). More than half of the Norwegian population lives in Østlandet. Oslo, the most populous city of Norway, is located here.
The country’s greatest National Parks are located in this region: Jutunheimen and Rondane. The first one is defined as the jewel among the National Parks in Norway with its towering mountain peaks and glaciers. Rondane is one of the most visited parks in Norway, characterized by its towering peaks, deep valleys and waterfalls.
