Between the Lisbon region and the North of Portugal is the Central region of Portugal, which includes the districts of Coimbra, Castelo Branco and Leiria and most part of the districts of Aveiro, Viseu and Guarda. The coast of this region is also known as Beira Litoral.
The most popular city in this region is Coimbra, capital of Portugal during the middle Ages. Close to the limit with the Lisbon region you will find Berlengas, a small archipelago in front of Peniche, which is a great diving destination with crystal-clear waters that attracts scuba divers from all nationalities. It has been a Marine Reserve since 1981 and is classified as World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
Nazaré, famous for its beach Playa do Norte and for its amazing big waves, which attract the best surfers in the world. Between November and February surfers can find the best waves.
