Las mejores aventuras de ecoturismo costero & marino en Europa
Taste and experience the Irish links to the sea! The Ballycastle Food Tour is a 6 stop food tour showcasing local foods, producers, chefs, shops, history and culture. Ballycastle’s eating places reflect its coastline, countryside and love of a ‘good feed’. It showcases everything from an Ulster Fry to bread and cakes, from fresh fish to high class patissierie, from cheese to ale, from local farmers to artisan producers. We stop for a breakfast stack; learn that potatoes come in many varieties and taste local cheese; eat cake, scones, kelp pesto; eat fish chowder and Guinness bread; crab claws and Rathlin Red Ale; and finish with sourdough bread and patisserie.

Ballycastle Food Tour

The tour winds slowly round the town, taking 3/3.5 hours to do a walk that, done briskly, would take 20 minutes. It covers our ‘Ulster Scots’ heritage especially mentioning Rathlin Sound, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Irish Sea. As the tour guide is qualified in Heritage Tour Guiding, it means that the guests get a literal as well as figurative taste of the Causeway Coast and Glens of Antrim.

You will taste an Ulster Fry in a local café which has long been part of this community. Stephen (chef and owner) makes the soda and potato bread especially for the tour. You will taste Dart Mountain cheeses in a local supermarket who are part of FoodNI and we learn about potatoes, past, present and varietal and that not only can you eat out local, but you can self-cater locally too.

We will visit eateries whose hosts explain their past experience and current ethos as in the gluten free certification in the Marine Hotel, pear and almond or seaweed and parmesan scones in Thyme and Co, cakes that are delicious works of art, kelp pesto, fresh fish from Morton’s, collaboration as e.g. O’Connor’s use Ursa Minor Bread and North Coast Smokehouse Salmon; local as all of them believe and show local foods, farmers, e.g. Ursa Minor uses foraged or donated fruits to put into their breads and patisseries.

Ballycastle was voted the Best Place to Live in Northern Ireland by the Sunday Times and this tour shows why that was!

I went on the Ballycastle food tour at the week and was blown away by all the fantastic local produce and delicious food. The owners of all the venues we visited were welcoming and so knowledgeable and Caroline was a marvellous tour guide. We had a mini Ulster fry with homemade potato and soda bread, the most incredible seafood chowder, cakes and pastries and crab claws to name just a few of the tasty treats on offer and we got a tour of the Ursula Minor kitchen where they make their incredible sour dough bread. The tour lasted 3.5 hours and was non stop I would highly recommend it to anyone and hope to do the Bushmills one soon. Book yourselves in you won't regret it!
