My wife suggested I get a life and do something interesting on my holiday, rather than hanging out in bars and dossing on the beach. So she found this PADI course for 3 days for my 16 year old son and I. I was a little apprehensive at first and was not sure I could do it. I'd never worn a wetsuit in my life and I'm 49 now. But, we took the opportunity with both hands though, and LOVED IT. The first day was with our instructor, Ali, in the pool, learning the basics of the kit and how to safely assemble and dis-assemble it. How to use it to breath underwater etc. Safe enough in the pool. Day two we went to the beach and waded out into the deeper water. We marvelled at the spectacular underwater life that we saw, including cuttle fish, colourful fish and small rays. All while gaining confidence in the skills. We carried out exercises to prove our mastery of the skills and our instructor was happy that we were okay with the techniques. The second day we did more work from the beach and really started getting the hang of things. In the afternoon we spent more time at the dive centre and got our theory knowledge up to scratch, with the help of Chris who was really keen to make sure we understood everything. We then sat the PADI exam and passed with good marks, thanks to Chris who made sure we were ready to do the test. What a wonderful experience we had. I am sure we will go back to Gran Canaria and do this again, now that we have the certifications. I'd not choose a different place to go to as Chris, Kate and Ali are really top people - genuinely interested in your progress, and they also give you transport to and from your hotel. First class.
