The city of Santander, capital of Cantabria, is the perfect location for a visit to this region. Enjoy its extraordinary gastronomy, the architecture of this elegant city, its urban beaches (over 12 beaches spread out along the city!) and the natural beauty of its surroundings.
The city is nested around a large natural harbour, which was already used before Roman times. Close to the city, in the Southern end of the bay, await some of the best beaches of the region, busy during the summer, but nearly deserted in the spring and autumn. A large surfing community has settled here.
Heading North the shore is rocky; recently declared a Natural Park, it is common to find birdwatchers here during the migration periods. Close nearby you can visit the Natural Park of the Dunes of Liencres, the largest dunar system of the Cantabric coast of Spain.
