Get ready to dive into the depths of Costa da Morte in Galicia in search of the Solway wreck (1843), which lies beneath the sea around 5 miles off the coast of Malpica.
This wreck dive will take you to discover the remains of the 1843 Solway ship, which rest at a depth of around 27 meters near the coast of Malpica. The Solway was a luxurious British steam ship that was travelling to the Caribbean when it tragically sank about 5 miles off the coast of Galicia, where it had made a stopover. This shipwreck had important consequences around the coast of Galicia, leading to the construction of new lighthouses to improve the visibility for ships approaching Costa da Morte ("death coast", named after the many fatalities that occured in the area). The wreck was recently discovered and it is well preserved, having remained identified for 170 years. The area offers an exquisite opportunity for advanced divers, its pristine waters being home to a large number of marine species.
The dive starts in Malpica, from where you will be guided to the wreck site by one of the experienced divers that were involved in its "discovery".
Please note that this wreck dive is only suitable for advance divers. A valid diving certificate and insurance must be presented before the dive.
