Illa Coelleira - literally "rabbits island" in Galician, is a small island located in the mouth of the Barqueiro river, near the town of Viveiro. It is a very unique, protected area with great marine biodiversity. A small path meanders along the island all the way to its summit, where a small monastery is found. The shipwreck of the Swedish cargo Landskronna attracts advanced divers to the waters surrounding the island. Crabs, rays, shrimp or squid as well as gorgonians and laminaria colour each dive, but it is the conger eel and the European lobster or lubrigante who play the starring role, both under the sea and on the table.
